The Central Government on Wednesday (April 28) notified the appointment of Justice Vimla Singh Kapoor of the Chhattisgarh High Court as Permanent Judge.
Justice Kapoor was elevated as an Additional Judge of the High Court on June 18, 2018.
On April 5 this year, the Supreme Court Collegium had approved the proposal for appointment of Justice Kapoor, as a permanent judge of the High Court.
The Notification of the Central Government in this regard reads,
“In the exercise of the power conferred by clause (1) Article 217 of the Constitution of India, the President is pleased to appoint Smt. Justice Vimla S. Kapoor, Additional Judge of the Chhattisgarh High Court, to be Judge of the Chhattisgarh High Court with effect from the date she resumes the charge of her office.”
Justice Vimla Kapoor has joined Judicial Services as Civil Judge Class II on September 3, 1987. She was appointed as an Additional Judge of Chattisgarh High Court on June 18, in 2018 for period of two years, which was further extended for period of one year.
It should be noted that President has accepted the resignation tendered by Justice Sharad Kumar Gupta of Chattisgarh Highcourt.
The notification to the above effect, issued by the Department of Justice, Ministry of Law and Justices says:
“Shri Justice Sharad Kumar Gupta has tendered his resignation from the office of Judge, Chhattisgarh High Court, in pursuance of proviso (a) to clause (1) of Article 217 of the Constitution, with effect from 31st March 2021 afternoon.”
He entered in Judicial Service in 1985 and served in various capacities at different places as Judicial Officer. He was appointed as Additional Judge of Chattisgarh High Court on June 27, 2017 and as a Permanent Judge on September 2, 2019.
As per a letter addressed by Justice Gupta to the President of India last month, he intends to relinquish his office to take up a new assignment of the State Government. He was due to retire on April 14 this year.
